Fearless

The Fearless Girl gets to stay, at least for another year.

Have you been following this?

This beautiful statue, which was installed for International Women’s Day right in front of Wall Street’s famous Charging Bull statue, was originally only scheduled to stay up until April. But the response to her has been so powerful that she gets to stay… for now.

I love her. I love her I love her I love her.

I love her hands on her hips; her chest jutted out in defiance. I love the wind that would seem to be blowing her pony tail and her skirt. I love her calm and confident face that is poised to not look away from the bull.

It is certainly an important visual message to empower women, and to speak to the importance of women in leadership positions. I can’t wait to take my daughter to see it next time she’s with me in New York.

And. I think it’s for more than women.

It’s for everyone who has ever felt like the “powerless” one. For everyone who has ever been in a situation where they were the underdog. For everyone who has ever been “charged” by an aggressor, in whatever form that aggression took place. It’s for everyone who has ever been told they can’t.

She reminds us to hold our ground.

Hold your ground.

Fearless doesn’t mean not feeling afraid. Fearless means facing that which you fear and holding your ground.

Someone once said that “once you become fearless, life becomes limitless.”

What “charging bull” have you been staying away from? I know. It’s big and it’s scary. It’s telling you that you better not even think of crossing it. But what might happen if instead of hiding from it you plant your feet squarely in front of it, hands on hips, and hold your ground?

I guess you might get trampled.

But what if you don’t?

What if you don’t?

“Once you become fearless, life becomes limitless.”

And I don’t know about you, but I like the sound of limitless.

How can you be fearless today?
